Student's Unions

The introduction of the Charities Act 2006 has amended the status of Student’s Unions from exempt charities to excepted charities, and requires those with incoming resources in excess of £100,000 to register with the Charity Commission and comply with their guidance. This has prompted many Unions to review their governance structure and contemplate incorporation as either a company limited by guarantee or charitable incorporated organisation (although this structure is not expected to be available until May 2011 at the earliest). These changes have created new pressures and challenges for managers in the Student's Union sector and it is essential that they receive professional, timely advice.

In addition, to the broader services we provide to Not for Profits generally we assist Student's Unions with:

  • practical interpretation of regulation for Student's Unions
  • sabbatical officer training
  • structural reviews.
