International Non Governmental Organisations
We recognise that International Non Governmental Organisations (INGOs) have special issues in addition to those faced by charities that operate in the UK alone. INGOs have to meet the increasing legislative and regulatory demands in both the UK and overseas. Working in demanding environments, INGOs must be able to react rapidly whilst remaining accountable to funders and other stakeholders.
Problems arise quickly, often with devastating impact. When the greater threat to value is not what has gone wrong, but what could go wrong, INGOs need to work with specialists who are forward-looking and provide reliable assurance.
Serving INGOs and the bodies that fund them is a specialist area of work for us and we are able to deploy teams with relevant experience of the operating environment and the issues that face them.
Our clients work all over the world and we are able to provide coverage in the remote locations. Our specialist teams work with INGOs across Africa, Asia and South America.
In addition, to the broader services we provide to Not for Profits generally we assist INGOs with:
- assistance in all areas of setting up operations internationally and relocation planning
- grant and loan management and funder reporting
- developing common accounting and internal control systems and reporting protocols
- developing frameworks for the preparation and review of global accounts
- structuring advice and registering local offices and obtaining banking and currency clearances
- employment advice on working overseas in particular local laws and tax
- assisting in the structuring of local resource mobilisation and capacity building
- establishing protocols for selecting, evaluating and working with partners including guidelines and contracts for overseas partners
- performance measurement and accountability reviews of outputs, outcomes and impacts
- assisting organisations with preparing for and responding to issues raised in funder audits
- negotiating local requirements such as customs clearance, tax status and registration
- providing benchmark information for in-country costs and carrying out value for money studies
- assisting with funding applications and corporate partnerships
- advising on Treasury management and forex exposure
- carrying out in-country audits and investigations
- compliance with local laws and regulations
- developing checklists and audit needs assessments for overseas operations
